Te Whare Ra 2017 TWR Pinot Noir
Winery : Te Whare Ra
Te Whare Ra’s first vines were planted in Renwick, making it one of the oldest vineyards in the Marlborough region and the South Island for that matter. The grapes are grown with the combination of organic and biodynamic practices. Owners are winemakers Anna and Jason Flowerday.
Michele’s notes: Medium ruby with garnet tinges. Characteristically aromatic and vibrant Marlborough Pinot with the depth and complexity that mature vines bring. Intriguing aromas of cherry pie, vanilla, earth, mushroom and beef tartare, the fruit mingling nicely with the more savoury/umami notes.
Punchy fruit in the mouth but it has a deft ‘fox trot’ touch about it. Barely-there oak – just a hint of toasted almond – cleansing/chalky/dry tannins and lingering flavours right to the end. It certainly invites you to take another sip.
Very versatile food wine – anything from antipasti to a roast pork shoulder with crackling.
