GERMANY Weingut Bernhard Huber Pinot Noirs
Winery : Huber
Germany is lauded as the 'new' great area for pinot noir. The development of vine culture and the resultant quality of wines has been on a spectacular trajectory for the last decade and a half. Top producer Bernhard Huber is located in Baden-Württemberg - the winery is in Malterdingen in the deep south-west of this region, located on the foothills of the Black Forest mountains between Strasbourg in the French Alsace Region and the city Basel in Switzerland.
'On approx 25ha we cultivate round about 65% Pinot Noir. For over 700 years Pinot Noir is cultivated in our village first documented in 1285. Cistercian monks brought the Pinot Noir tradition from Burgundy into our region…!'2014 Huber Pinot Noir: This is the winery's regional wine and comes from young vines between 6 and 12 years old. Viticultural techniques include green harvesting, in order to reduce the yields. Medium bodied, full of flavour.
2014 Huber Alte Malterdinger Pinot Noir: Vines up to 25 years old. Medium bodied, spicy, sappy, minerally. Fine tannins and finish.
2013 Huber Alte Reben Spatburgunder: Huber's 'premier cru', 40 year old vines, third whole bunch, unfiltered. Aromas of chocolate, soft tannins, persistence. Impressive.
