Gryphonwood 2011 One Bunch Pinot Noir

Gryphonwood vineyard is based at Underwood north-east Tasmania but in recent vintages have been sourcing fruit from West Tamar and White Hills ahead of full production for their own vines.

Deeply coloured with purple/ruby red highlights establish a mood of anticipation and the fruity aromas of blackberry and currant keep the enjoyment going. The fruit is quite intense and then spicy and charry oak notes add complexity.

The (mostly) West Tamar fruit really pumps through on the palate and the juicy flavours linger deliciously. Another sip and you begin to appreciate the nuances. Finally, savoury but very fine tannins wrap up the package in elegant style.

Another sub $30 pinot that really delivers. Tasmania has this niche nailed.
