Kinvarra Estate 2014 Pinot Noir
Winery : Kinvarra Estate
Kinvarra Estate was established at Plenty in the Upper Derwent Valley (about 40 minutes from Hobart) in 1827 by Englishman George Frederick Read. There is a very fine Georgian homestead on the site. In 1990 a 1 hectare 'Home Block', divided between Riesling and Pinot Noir, was planted by then owners David and Sue Bevan. The first vintage Kinvarra Pinot was 1994. A further 8.7ha was planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in 2009 for sparkling wine production.
During the '90s and early 2000s, the greater part of Kinvarra's grapes were sold to other producers. New ownership since 2013 of Paul & Julie Sillifant and Janez Cernelc has revived the Kinvarra name with stylish new label and winemaking by Kate Hill.
Kinvarra Estate 2014 Pinot Noir: Glitters in the glass with ruby highlights. Generous aromas of sweet, dark berry fruits and musk roses. Smooth and soft in the mouth, and exceptionally full, with that irresistible jubey/pastille quality. Gently persistent tannins and a tiny acid kick to finish things off nicely. A pinot of considerable presence. Only 1600 bottles made.
