Utzinger 2024 Pinot Noir
Winery : Utzinger
Swiss winemaker Matthias Utzinger settled in Tasmania after meeting his Tasmanian-born, wife-to-be Lauren on his travels. Before planting in the Tamar Valley, Matthias worked for Stefano Lubiana at the then newly purchased Panorama vineyard in the Huon. Matthias also makes wine for other producers in the Tamar Valley, a testament to his reputation as a fine winemaker.
D&M notes:
There is a lighter nuanced touch to the 24’ pinot noir which I have seen in other producers from the Tamar. The unfurling of blueberry fruits and black olive tapenade are overlaid with szechuan pepper, saffron and red currants.
The palate confirms the lighter lithe approach, again with red currants, cranberry and cured meats, prosciutto/lardons. The integration of fruit and oak is harmonious and flowing with some blood sausage/ferric compounds along with woody herbs, sage/wild thyme.
