Chardonnay - Felton Road Chardonnays
Winery : Felton Road
The quality of Felton Road's Chardonnay leaves us wondering why this variety is spurned by the majority of Central Otago producers. Felton Rd's Chardonnay is always rather exotic in style - tangy lime and guava with a lively yet luxurious palate - and superb structure which gives it great age-ability. It's a very refreshing wine but has the right amount of chardonnay weight.
'16 Felton Road Block 2 Chardonnay: Winery notes 'Crushed sea shells and delicate citrus blossom lead the focussed and detailed nose. The palate follows with a salinity and minerality that is subtle, complex and intriguing. Devoid of any overt wine-making characters, the wine offers a transparency that allows its unique vineyard origin of schist gravel soils to really shine and take centre stage. Refined and poised with serious precision.'
'16 Felton Road Block 6 Chardonnay: Winery notes 'Riper fruit aromas containing hints of white peach along with our characteristic grapefruit pith; emanate gracefully from this higher elevation and steeper north facing site. Stone fruit features again and combines with a textural and mouth-coating palate to give a broad and expansive finish. Finely composed and nothing in excess, allowing articulate site expression.'
'16 Felton Road Bannockburn Chardonnay: Winery notes 'Aromas of citrus blossom, crushed stones, white peach and elderflower. The palate is almost completely filled with the characteristic salty minerality. Delicate and fine, not heavy nor complicated with wood or winemaking, it carries a lovely transparency and finesse. There’s no shortage of flavour here, but it is ethereal - it dances on the palate, then finishes with great purity and length.'
