HOLYMAN 2023 Chardonnay
Winery : HOLYMAN
Joe Holyman and his family have been involved in growing grapes and making wine in Tasmania since 1984. They purchased the vineyard that was planted in 1986 in the Tamar Valley, north of Launceston. In 2008 the construction of the winery began on site. They have expanded their vineyard in recent years with more Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gruner Veltliner and Trousseau.
D&M notes: 1986-planted old vines 0.75Ha block, non irrigated vines, cropped low, 30% new French oak, No fining.
It is not surprising that a skilled Pinot Noir producer also makes outstanding Chardonnay
There is a tingle of pawpaw and grapefruit pith that leads to an almond meal nuttiness, also hits of clove and vanilla pod with a touch of salinity, think brined capers.
The palate brings true pleasure, with taut acidity and a beautiful purity of white nectarine. There is a great harmony between quality oak and fruit that is both alluring and engaging.
