ITALY - Chianti Sample 6 Pack
Winery : Various
Italy's Chianti region area sits roughly between the provinces of Siena in the south and Florence in the north. Arezzo province marks the eastern boundary, with the province of Pisa on the west. The centrally located Classico zone is but one of several Chianti zones including Chianti Rufina which is to the north of Florence city.
The Gallo Nero (black rooster) symbol designates that the producer is part of the 'consortium' whose members engage in peer assessment of the wines and are committed to improving quality through research.1 x Villa Trasqua Chianti Classico (Gallo Nero): Supremely elegant. The Villa Trasqua people describe themselves as 'fanatics', evident when you taste the quality across the entire range. Dark berries and cherries with typical toasty notes and spicy clove and licorice. Medium bodied, all the parts beautifully integrated.
1 x Querciabella Chianti Classico (Gallo Nero): A study in harmony, balance and latent power. Rather than being grippy, the sangiovese tannins here add to the volume. Superb. 'Querciabella has been on a roll over the last few years. I can't say enough good things about these wines... Querciabella doesn't make a big deal about the fact that their vineyards are now biodynamically farmed... The wines speak for themselves.' Antonio Galloni 2010
1 x Guicciardini Strozzi Chianti Classico (Gallo Nero): Ripe red berry fruits, with a spicy background. Freshness on the palate with balanced tannin. Persistence.
1 x Castello di Querceto Chianti Classico (Gallo Nero): Castello di Querceto is located in the north-east of Chianti in the commune of Greve in Chianti. Fruit for this wine is sourced from the Colline del Valdarno, part of the Chianti 'mountain' range. Seriously complex and satisfying Chianti, at once fruity and floral but also spice and leather. An infinite array of aromas and flavours are revealed as the wine breathes in the glass.
1 x Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico (Gallo Nero): A small percentage of Canaiolo (5%) is added to the Sangiovese, a very traditional practice. The wine is fermented in steel and aged in neutral (old) French oak barrels.
1 x Frescobaldi Castiglione Chianti DOCG: From the heart of the Chianti region. Castiglione is at an elevation of 200m and the Frescobaldis have grown grapes here for 700 years. The warm and dry conditions here produce Chianti with intense aromas of wild red berries.
