Making deluxe sparkling wine is about a vision matched with scientific rigour, an 'immaculate vineyard' and joy in the art of creation. Dr Andrew Pirie, founder of Pipers Brook Vineyard, has ever been at the forefront of Tasmania's wine industry and is at the top of his game with Apogee sparkling wine project at Lebrina in the state's north-east.

Pirie's Apogee Vineyard is about the size of a Grand Cru vineyard in Champagne. In the same luxury Champagne tradition, everything at Apogee is hand done, right down to disgorging and labelling. And the accolades flow - a mention in The Wall Street Journal, no less. Tim White of the AFR, after visiting Apogee last year, wrote of the vivacity of the sparkling wines, evident also in Pirie himself - 'In short: he seems to be having fun as well as creating fabulous wine.'

Join Andrew Pirie for a visit to Apogee Vineyard, an insight into climate and viticulture in this uber-cool part of the world plus a demonstration of the fascinating disgorging process. This will be followed by an Apogee Sparkling tasting accompanied by (the famous) house-made canapes.

When: FRIDAY July 22, 2pm - 5.15pm: transport departs Pinot Shop at 2pm sharp.
