Depending on vintage conditions, Central Otago vineyard Mount Difficulty may make single site Pinot Noirs from Bannockburn vineyards Long Gully, Target Gully or Pipeclay Terrace.

In vintages 2009 and 2010, Mount Difficulty made all three Single Site Pinots, in 2011 Long Gully and Target Gully were made. As tastings of vintages going back to 2005 have shown, these are age-worthy pinots. Stability and hence age-worthiness comes in part from maturing vines - the majority of the fruit in the 2011 Long Gully Pinot Noir is from vines that are 16-17 years old.

Mt Difficulty Long Gully 2011 Pinot was one of the 12 pinots from around the world chosen for the 2013 Stonier Internatonal Pinot Noir Tasting.

Michele's notes: Dark berry fruits with hints of fragrant tea, and then mocha/coffee. A good swirl to give some air lifts the sweeter aromas. Sleek pinot, layers of flavour but also focus. Fruit and acid completely in balance and set in a framework of seriously good tannins. As always, brilliant cellaring proposition.
