- 2014 Catalina Sounds Pinot Noir (Marlborough): Marlborough makes joyous and very flavoursome pinots and Catalina is a delicious example. Dark cherries, rose powder, violet and game on the nose, ultra juicy and lip-smacking with gentle and tantalising acidity to make the mouth water. A very smart wine indeed in this super value pack.
- 2015 Nanny Goat Pinot Noir (Central Otago): Commissioned and imported by the Casama group and made with love by winemaker Alan Peters-Oswald. Deeply but brilliantly coloured, the aromas are of sweet fruit and aromatic florals with intense black currant jelly and wet stone. Terrifically juicy in the mouth with a touch of grown-up savoury on the finish.
- 2014 Rabbit Ranch Pinot Noir (Central Otago): Vibrantly clear in the glass with deep ruby hues. As usual, the bouquet is a lovely feature - white pepper and sweet spice with rose and violet and plenty of ripe raspberry which amplifies entrancingly with breathing. The juicy fruit continues on the palate which has terrific texture, finishing with a nice glycerol note and finely chewy tannins. Lively acid and bags of flavour. Cellaring for up to 4 is a real option with this vintage.
- 2014 Delta Pinot Noir (Marlborough): Delta Wine Co was founded by winemaker Matt Thomson, London-based MW David Gleave and Marlborough viticulturist Neal Ibbotson. Great drinking now or cellar in the medium term for more complexity. Dark garnet, perfumed with ripe blackcurrants and notes of dark spices. Dark fruits on the palate with undertones of fresh ground coffee and spices.
