2025 Dr EDGE Pinot Noir $60 (Derwent & Tamar Valley)

Dr. Edge Tasmania Pinot Noir is a blend of Derwent Valley (60%) and Tamar Valley (40%) fruit. All manner of whole cluster inclusion and partial carbonic maceration occurs across each parcel in the fermenters. After wild yeast has its way, the fermented grapes are pressed to a concrete tank to lay low for 9 months before bottling without the use of any fining agents.
2023 Spring Vale Estate Pinot Noir $58 (East Coast)
Probably one of the first Pinot Noirs I came across years ago, great wines, great people.
Early notes of damson plum and bresaola leading to some salinity, capers and Indian spices, (cumin, green cardamom) there is a touch of wet stone/metallic lick at the end.
Juicy palate that shows some port wine jelly, cayenne pepper flakes and a tang of tamarillo (tree tomato). The texture is sumptuous and lithe with verve and energy, again a slight ferrous element on the back palate to balance the fruit sweetness. I am wondering how much I like this wine as I look down at a half empty glass…
2022 Caledon Reserve Pinot Noir $65 (Coal River Valley)
The Caledon Pinots both scored and tasted well especially the Reserve
The Stewart family moved to Tasmania in pursuit of the wine makers dream and this was realised late in 2019 with the formation of Caledon Estate in 2019. The vineyard is managed by Justin Folloso with the very capable Matt Wood (Spring Vale) creating some superb wines from this iconic site
Hailing from the cool-climate vineyards of Tasmania's Coal River Valley, this wine is deep ruby red in colour, with powerful aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, subtle spice and toasty oak. Concentrated red fruits fill the palate, framed by ripe, fine-grained tannins that lend structure and length. A gentle savoury note weaves through the mid-palate, adding a touch of complexity to the wine's overall character, before giving way to a long, satisfying finish.
