It was the biggest shock of the wine world - a Tasmanian Shiraz winning the 2011 Jimmy Watson Trophy. Nick Glaetzer triumphed with the very first vintage of his ode to 'Mon Pere' - Baron of Barossa Colin Glaetzer. Each subsequent vintage of the Glaetzer Dixon Mon Pere Shiraz has proved the feat to be no flash in the pan. Made from 30 and 40 year old southern Tasmanian vines.
Michele's notes: As usual, the wine has the most extraordinary colour, with a depth and richness like velvet. The aromas too are rich - plum and dark raspberry in this low-yielding vintage with roasted hazelnuts and licorice.
The licorice follows through on the palate along with a flood of dark berry fruits in a fine-boned framework. The finish is dry and pleasingly savoury but there's a delicious juiciness and plumpness here that has you reaching for the next sip. Each taste seems better than the one before...
Made from 30 and 40 year old southern Tasmania vines.
