Tempranillo - 2014 Cillar de Silos Joven Ribera del Duero
Winery : Cillar de Silos
Ribera del Duero, DO Toro and better known Rioja make up the three major classic regions for producing tempranillo in Spain. Cillar de Silos, the estate of the Aragon family, is situated on the high northern slopes rising out of the Duero Valley. Their vinous material is 60-80 years old.
The intensity of the fruit in this wine will blow you away - punchy dark bramble berries and even blackcurrant dominate but there are fine and slightly spicy tannins to finish. There's no oak at all with Cillar de Silos' Joven, so the purity of the Ribera del Duero fruit remains centre stage.
Scott Wasley (The Spanish Acquisition): 'Cillar de Silos is archetypal of the modernisation of the Spainish wine scene, where great old vine material is taken out of co-op production and transformed into low crop, concentrated, fleshy, elegant modern estate wine.'
Sealed with normacorc, which is one of the very fancy, new-breed plastic corks that you can actually remove from your corkscrew.
