William Downie 2014 Pinot Noirs
Winery : William Downie
William Downie established his own label making Pinot Noir in 2003 after several years living and working in Burgundy. Each vintage he makes a wine (Pinot Noir) from Gippsland, Yarra Valley and Mornington
- 2014 William Downie Gippsland (Pinot Noir) $65: 'The nose shows strong blueberry fruit as well as tar, spice and rusted iron. The palate is textured and complex with bitter orange, olive, oregano, tarragon and blackcurrant. The wine is quite reserved when compared with 2012 and 2013 and will benefit from a few years rest in the cellar. Drink 2016 - 2025'
- 2014 William Downie Mornington Peninsula (Pinot Noir) $65: '...the nose shows rose, jasmine, strawberry jam and star anise. The palate is quite elegant but still richly textured and lively with plenty of flavour and complexity – Tamarillo, mulberry, black cherry, cinnamon, hazelnut and struck match. Drink 2016 -2025'
- 2014 William Downie Yarra Valley (Pinot Noir) $65: 'Very floral on the nose with violets, rose and lavender as well as clove, fennel and licorice. The palate is soft and juicy but not sweet with poached plums and peaches, mulberries and oolong tea. Tart acid and the usual granite minerality provide structure and definition. A relatively early drinking version of Yarra Valley. Drink 2016 - 2025'
