Chard Farm 2021 Mata-Au Pinot Noir
Winery : Chard Farm
Chard Farm, although based in a most spectacular Gibbston location, uses estate-grown Lowburn/Parkburn fruit from the Cromwell Basin for Mata-Au Pinot. This area, with its alluvial schists, produces elegant, softly structured pinot in contrast to the concentration and firm backbone of Gibbston.
Mata-Au is the Maori name for the Clutha River. Running from Lake Wanaka to the Southern Alps, it is New Zealand's second longest.
Michele's notes: Typically shows florals and briar fruits, notably raspberry. Flavour intensity on the palate, but not heaviness, simply persistence of the impeccable fruit, framed by barely-there oak handling and 'on point' acidity.
