NZ North Island Pinot Noirs
Winery : Various
Martinborough and Hawke's Bay are the homes of two outstanding Pinot Noirs. The mixed pack features 3 each of the wines.
2023 Craggy Range Te Muna Road Pinot Noir MARTINBOROUGH: Bold and inviting bouquet with red and dark cherry with sweet spices, and savoury/umami notes of soy, roasted almond, and smoky bacon. Hints of wet stone and beetroot too. Lovely open texture with ever so slightly gritty tannins frame the fruit. The wine floats on the palate - no elbows or hard edges, just supple juiciness and a lovely glycerol flow.
2021 Te Mata Alma Pinot Noir HAWKE'S BAY: Deeply hued. Alluring aromas of dark cherry/sweet blackberries, chocolate, liquorice strap and umami notes of dried porcini. Toasted nuts too from the excellent oak. The overall impression is that this is going to be a big wine, but it is surprisingly and pleasingly juicy, supple, and refreshing. Poised acidity is a great foil to the ripe fruit. Ultra-fine tannins on the long finish.
