Yellow Point 2013 Pinot Noir
Winery : Yellow Point
Yellow Point Pinot Noir from Birch's Bay in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel appeared from virtually nowhere, earning THREE TROPHIES at 2011 Tasmanian Wine Show for the 2008 release - Best Pinot Noir, Best Red Wine, Best 3YO Pinot Noir.
The quirky label has become a talking point as much as the delicious contents and is reference to a military button found in the vineyard. The regimental owner of the button, the 11th Regiment of Foot (North Devon) distinguished itself in the Napoleonic wars at the Battle of Salamanca and became known as the Bloody Eleven.
Vintage 2013 Yellow Point Pinot is only the third commercial release - 2008, 2012, 2013 - highlighting its scarcity.
Gorgeously sweet fruit with aromatic white pepper on the nose; it's immediately mouth-watering. Ripe red and dark cherries in a juicy/silky package. Lots of fruit flavour intensity in the mouth with a touch of meatiness, orange rind and cola (a sort of duck a l'orange in a glass...) which makes things interesting. D'Entrecasteaux area-typical glycerol finish, fine tannins nicely in the background.
Lip-smacking and compulsive drinking.
