Bannockburn 2019 Wines
Winery : Bannockburn Vineyards
Bannockburn’s vineyards are some of the oldest established in the Geelong area. Founded by Stuart Hooper, the first vineyard was planted in 1974 with further plantings into the 1980s. The Hooper family still owns the vineyard and is committed to continuing Stuart’s legacy. Lucas Grigsby has been viticultural manager for over 30 years, taking pride in tending to the vineyards with a belief in organic farming practices to maintain the health of the soils and vines. Winemaker Matt Holmes takes a minimal interventionist approach to the carefully nurtured fruit.
2019 Bannockburn S.R.H. Chardonnay: Bibendum notes - '(This) is surely a defining release from Holmes. Fresh, nervy and powerful, it shows exemplary finesse alongside impressive, leading acidity and chewy phenolics. It’s driven and complex with a multi-dimensional finish, a head-turning and wholly impressive wine.'
2019 Bannockburn Estate Pinot Noir: Batches of fruit from all the estate blocks are vinified using indigenous yeasts, with approx 20% whole bunch in the final blend. Michele's notes - Deep in colour with intense flashes of magenta. Divinely complex bouquet with fruit/savoury/earthy characters intermingling - dark cherry, beef tartare/ferrous elements, exotic spice. Rich in the mouth with plum this time, more dark cherry and liquorice. Very fine tannins provide a perfect foil to the rich fruit. Very rewarding pinot noir, impressive.
