Apsley Gorge 2022 Pinot Noir
Winery : Apsley Gorge
Tasmania's Apsley Gorge is a world apart. The location is unique, the vineyard snuggled as it is under the Douglas Apsley National Park at the northern end of the East Coast. It is a cool location, extending the ripening season and making it among the last to pick in the state. Brian Franklin has honed his experience in both hemispheres - he produces wine in both France and Tasmania.
Michele's notes: Fruit, floral and savoury notes combine in that particularly satisfying Apsley Gorge way. It is a hallmark of the style. Very fragrant with cherry fruit, clove, red roses, rosemary, sage, tobacco and a whiff of struck match.
So very tasty with layers of ripe fruit flavours, liquorice, vanilla oak and fine chalky tannins. A glycerol/candied cherry note at the end provides a silky, lingering finish. Less brooding than some previous vintages but ever so delectably stylish, and showing the classic Peacock's tail of top Pinot Noir.
