Burn Cottage Pinot Noirs
Winery : Burn Cottage
Marquis & Dianne Sauvage planted their vines in 2003 at the foot of the Pisa Range in the Cromwell sub-region of Central Otago. Ted Lemon of California's Littorai provided consultancy advice with regard to site selection and biodynamic practices. Claire Mulholland is the Burn Cottage winemaker.
2020 Burn Cottage Vineyard Pinot Noir: The original Burn Cottage Vineyard in Lowburn is a patchwork of blocks that was strategically planned out with the aim of matching clone and rootstock to soil, aspect and exposure. Michele's notes: Deep colour. Brooding aromas of plum, tamarillo, violet, pouch tobacco, earth and thyme. A bit bolder in this vintage but it retains its essential juiciness and energy. The flavours build in the mouth and the textural sensation is very pleasing. Acid and tannins perform the perfect support roles.
2020 Moonlight Race Pinot Noir: Produced from both the Cromwell and Bannockburn vineyard sites. Michele's notes: Deep ruby, pepper spice to the fore, with morello cherries, hint of orange rind, lavender and earth. A vivacious Pinot, with lively fruit and exceptionally fine/chalky tannins. It is not a weighty wine, but there is an abundance of flavour. Refreshing finish.
