Jim Chatto came to Tasmania in 1998, freshly recruited to be the winemaker at the then Rosevears Estate (since incorporated into Tamar Ridge Wines). Chatto's career moved on a steep trajectory, culminating in his appointment as Chief Winemaker for McWilliam's Wines Group. Meanwhile, Jim and wife Daisy have established their own vineyard at Cygnet in the Huon Valley.  They also source fruit from premium growers around the state.

2023 Chatto Lutruwita Pinot Noir:  MULTI-REGIONAL. Michele's notes: Medium depth, garnet hues. Red cherry, spice, game and hints of pork and fennel sausage. Lovely in the mouth with softly layered sweet fruit. The flavours build deliciously. A vivacious and complete Pinot.

2023 Chatto Killara Farm Pinot Noir: COAL RIVER VALLEY - Michele's notes: Deep, glittering crimson/magenta. Intense dark berry fruits, chocolate, aromatic cardamom. A complex and energetic wine, chock full of dark fruit. Subdued but savoury oak influence supports the fabulous fruit. Excellent cellar proposition.

2023 Chatto Bird Vineyard Pinot Noir: PIPERS RIVER - Bird Vineyard was planted in the very early 2000s by Pipers Brook Vineyard. Michele's notes: Medium density but big on persistent flavours. Very pretty aromas of cherry/floral/wet stone are a foreword to the essential fruit sweetness of the palate. Fine, savoury tannins on the finish.

2023 Chatto Franklinii Pinot (value $69): Only available in the mixed pack. 100% Huon Valley fruit. Michele's notes: Crimson/ruby in colour. Dark cherry, milk chocolate and fennel all contribute to the alluring nose. Intense fruit on the palate is matched by lively but balanced acidity. Vivacious and energetic, and very tasty.
