Nanny Goat Pinot Noirs 2022/23
Winery : Nanny Goat
Nanny Goat Vineyard is named after the wild goats that roam the mountainous terrain of Central Otago. The estate vineyard is in the Queensberry sub region, approximately halfway between Cromwell and Wanaka, alongside the Mata Au/Clutha River. The Nanny Goat team also works with growers in Pisa, Gibbston, Bannockburn & Queensberry to source more premium fruit. Central Otago native Alan Peters-Oswald is the winemaker.
2023 Nanny Goat Pinot Noir:
Bright and lively on the nose with vivid aromas of raspberry, blueberry, and red currant fruits immediately evident while nuances of toasted brown spice, dried earth and subtle herbaceous notes add complexity. The palate is vibrant up front with a core of juicy fruits suggestive of wild berries, red cherry, and tamarillo. Cola and toasted spices add layers of interest to the mid whilst a sinewy thread of fine-grained tannin entwines the palate and ushers you towards a pleasantly lingering finish.
2022 Super Nanny Pinot Pinot Noir: Super Nanny comprises the best parcels of fruit the from Nanny Goat vineyard and selected partnering vineyards. Wonderful perfume of plum cake with brighter notes of cranberry, plus mocha and wet stone. Despite the obvious richness and depth of flavour, there is an essential flow and suppleness to the wine. Extremely enjoyable drinking.
2023 Queensberry Single Vineyard Pinot Fruit is from the 'home' vineyard in Queensberry, BioGro Certified organic.
Vineyard Notes; Typical of Queensberry Pinot Noir, the nose is dark and brooding yet beautifully perfumed with concentrated black and blue berry fruits layered amongst aromas suggestive of exotic spices and dried flowers. The palate is taut and powerful with an abundance of ripe black plum, wild berry fruits, and discreetly layered oak. Powdery fine tannins coat the mouth, contributing to a sinewy elegant core balanced beautifully by a fine streak of acidity which offers a lively backdrop to the abundant berry fruits. This is a wine that is both powerful and dense yet beautifully light on its feet.
