Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir
Winery : Enderle & Moll
Germany is lauded as the 'new' great area for pinot noir. The development of vine culture and the resultant quality of wines has been on a spectacular trajectory for the last decade and a half. Germany now ranks third in the world after France and USA for area planted to pinot noir. New plantings have mostly concentrated around Baden and the Pfalz.
Sven Enderle and Florian Moll's Pinots have been described as 'breathtaking', terroir-pure wines. They are made from 25-45 year old vines, grown on coloured sandstone and some 60yo vines on 'shell' limestone. Growing and making they follow biodynamic principles as much as they can, with an attitude of 'leave it be', nothing forced. They work outside the traditional quality 'pradikat' system, labelling their wines Pinot Noir Landwein rather than specific vineyard Spatburgunder.
Virtually unknown in Germany still, Enderle & Moll have already been recognised on the global pinot scene as a producer to watch with Jancis Robinson recently labelling them a 'new cult producer'.
- 2013 Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir: Michele's notes - The 'standard' E&M is vivacious with a very pretty nose of strawberries and Turkish delight and some fresh thyme thrown in. The palate has life, and flavour-persistent body with bright, refreshing acidity and abundant red berry flavours to complement. There's an exotic foreignness about it which makes it quite more-ish.
- 2013 Enderle & Moll 'Liaison' Pinot Noir $75: Deep with 'funky undergrowth', plum, earth, spice but also rose florals.
